AmeriCorps Strengthening
America
On February 8th, 2005, hundreds of individuals
came together in celebration of AmeriCorps' 10th
Anniversary at Voices
for AmeriCorps: AmeriCorps Strengthening America.
This 10-hour event, which took place on Capitol
Hill in Washington DC, featured over 85 speakers
who delivered powerful testimony on the impact
AmeriCorps has in strengthening our nation's communities.
Speakers addressed topics such as building affordable
housing, developing citizen leaders, educating
youth, and preserving public lands. Other highlights
included:
- A diverse array of speakers, from 33
different states (including Alaska),
representing State Service Commissions, national
non-profits, community and faith-based groups,
school districts and universities, government
agencies, and the business community.
- 22 AmeriCorps
alumni delivered testimony.
- 12 Members of
Congress attended the event and delivered
remarks.
- 111 organizations signed
up as members of the Organizing Committee.
