On February 13, 2007, more than 400 friends and
supporters of national service gathered at Union
Station’s East Hall to celebrate and honor
Members of Congress, Governors, and private citizens
who have worked to protect and expand national service
opportunities for all Americans.
David Cohen, Executive
Vice President of the Comcast Corporation opened
the program and Representative Chris Shays announced
the new leadership of the National Service Congressional
Caucus. Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, Senator Ken
Salazar, and Representative Doris Matsui were all
present to accept their respective awards and share
their vision for the future of national service.
The
fourth annual Friends of National Service Reception
was sponsored by the Comcast Corporation and co-hosted
by Voices for National Service and The Corps Network.
Representatives from 23 state service commissions
attended the reception, as well as David Eisner,
CEO of the Corporation for National and Community
Service, and Kristin McSwain, Director of AmeriCorps.
Other guests included congressional and agency staff,
